Our Criminal Defence and Prosecution Department covers all criminal matters ranging from Intervention Orders and traffic offences through to major criminal trials.

Our firm has been engaged in some of the most complicated and lengthy criminal trials in this State. We have substantial experience in the Coroners', Magistrates', County and Supreme Courts.

Other areas of our expertise include:-

  • White collar/commercial crime
    We have extensive experience in the area of fraud related criminal offences which have involved lengthy and complicated hearings. Our department uses computer software programmes to assist in the proper preparation in these types of matters.
  • Disciplinary proceedings
    We have acted on behalf of a large number of individuals who have been charged with committing disciplinary offences before professional bodies such as lawyers, medical practitioners, accountants, veterinarians, and dentists. We are regularly involved in hearings of this nature for disciplinary tribunals and subsequent reviews of the decision.
  • Coronial Inquests
    We have had involvement in dozens of coronial Inquests, ranging from, acting for the next of kin of the deceased prisoners in the Jika Jika fire, acting for police officers involved in fatal shootings or fatal car accidents, and acting for company directors and managers of companies where an employee has been killed in the course of his or her employment.
  • Murder Trials
    We have acted on behalf of dozens of people who have been charged with the offence of murder.
  • Appeals in the County Court, Court of Appeal & The High Court of Australia
  • Occupational Health & Safety Matters
    We have acted in a large number of matters for employers, directors and employees of corporations who are charged with committing offences pursuant to the Occupational Health & Safety Act where, an employee has been injured or killed in a work related accident.

Our criminal law department is one of the more highly regarded practices in Melbourne. Much of our work in this jurisdiction is referred to us by members of the Victorian Bar and lawyers who do not practise in this area.
